A Rune is the item you buy in the enchant shop to get a custom enchant. Each rune belongs to one rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare or Legendary). Right-clicking it uses it up and gives you an enchanted book holding a random enchant of that rarity. The rune shows as an Angler Pottery Sherd named after its rarity, for example "Legendary Rune".
How to get runes#
- Enchant shop. Open
/enchantshop, choose a rarity and buy the rune with XP. Prices are listed on the enchant shop page. - Crates and rewards. Some crates and other rewards hand out runes directly. See the crate pages of your mode (Skyblock Crates, Prison Crates, Crates, Crates).
KOTH runes are not sold for XP. On Skyblock and Lifesteal, capturing KOTH can reward a KOTH rune, which turns into a random KOTH enchant of that mode. Exclusive enchants never come from runes.
What a rune gives you#
- Right-click the rune while holding it. One rune is used up.
- The game picks a random enchant from that rarity's pool. Every enchant in the pool is equally likely; the pick does not depend on your gear.
- You receive an enchanted book for that enchant. In the usual case the book has an unknown level (a range such as I - V) that you reveal with a right-click, and a random success chance between 1% and 100%. Enchants that have only one level come with that level already fixed.
- The rune purchase, the rune result and the later level reveal can be announced in chat (see Enchant Alerts in
/options).
If the pool for a rarity is empty the rune tells you "Failed to get enchantment. Please try again." and is not consumed.
Rune pools#
A rune's pool holds the enchants of its rarity that are active in the current mode and that are allowed to come out of runes. A few enchants are deliberately kept out of the pool and are only listed as unavailable in the enchant shop browser; they come from other sources instead (crates, rewards).
| Mode | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skyblock | 20 enchants | 12 enchants | 12 enchants | 5 enchants |
| Prison | 7 enchants | 2 enchants | 4 enchants | 10 enchants |
| Lifesteal | 22 enchants | 24 enchants | 13 enchants | 8 enchants |
| Survival | 11 enchants | 6 enchants | 11 enchants | 34 enchants |
The full lists are on the mode pages: Skyblock Enchants, Prison Enchants, Lifesteal Enchants and Survival Enchants. Pool size is worth checking before buying: in Prison, for example, an Uncommon rune can only ever give one of two enchants.
Level of the book#
The level shown on a rune book is a range from level I up to the enchant's maximum level. Revealing it picks one level:
- Prison and Lifesteal: every level in the range is equally likely.
- Skyblock and Survival: lower levels are more likely. Each level above I is less likely than the one below it by a fixed factor (20% less in Skyblock, 8% less in Survival). For an enchant with five levels this works out to:
| Mode | I | II | III | IV | V |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skyblock | 29.7% | 23.8% | 19.0% | 15.2% | 12.2% |
| Survival | 23.5% | 21.6% | 19.9% | 18.3% | 16.8% |
See revealing the level for the steps.
Tips#
- Buy the rarity whose pool contains what you want; check the pool on the mode page first.
- Open runes one at a time and keep the books: a bad success chance can be fixed with Mystery Dust, and a book you do not want can be salvaged for XP.
