AFK ("away from keyboard") is handled automatically. If you stop moving and interacting for long enough, the game warns you and then sends you to an AFK area so you stop taking up space in the working areas. Skyblock and the hub do not move you.
How you get marked AFK#
You count as active when you move, interact, open an inventory or take damage. After a period without any of these, you are warned:
- A title appears: You will be marked as AFK in <time>! with "Move or interact to avoid being marked as AFK." The countdown runs for 10 seconds and the warning stops if you move.
- When the countdown ends you are teleported to the AFK area (
/warp afk).
| Gamemode | Idle time before the warning | Where it applies | AFK area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prison | 5 to 10 minutes | Everywhere except the Prison lobby | The Prison AFK area |
| Lifesteal | About 10 minutes | Everywhere except the Lifesteal lobby | The Lifesteal AFK zone |
| Survival | 10 to 15 minutes | Spawn, the PvP area and the resource worlds; not the main Survival world, the Nether or the End | The Survival AFK area |
| Skyblock, hub | Never moved automatically | — | None |
The idle time is checked on a timer, which is why it is a range rather than an exact time.
You can also go there yourself with /warp afk (listed in the warps menu on Prison and Lifesteal), see Warps.
In the AFK area#
- All players in the AFK area are hidden from each other, so it is empty and quiet.
- On Lifesteal, time in the AFK zone still counts as time online for the playtime reward. See Spawn and AFK.
- Playtime rewards keep running while you are online, see Playtime.
Coming back#
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
/afkback | Teleports you back to where you were before you were moved. Works independently of /back |
The game tells you when it moves you ("You were moved to the AFK area. Click here or use /afkback to return"), and your return spot is remembered for 12 hours. If no safe spot exists near it you see "Couldn't find a safe location near where you went AFK."
