An Enchanted Book holds exactly one custom enchant. Its name shows the rarity, the enchant and the level (or the level range), and its lore shows what items it fits, the success rate and the destroy rate. You apply a book by dragging it onto an item in your inventory.
Reading a book#
| Line | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name, for example "Legendary Vampire I - V" | Rarity colour, enchant name and level. A range such as I - V means the level is not revealed yet |
| Success Rate | Chance that the enchant is added to the item when you apply the book. Books without this line always succeed |
| Destroy Rate | The opposite of the success rate. If the roll fails, the book is destroyed |
| Target | Which items the enchant can go on (see Enchant Targets) |
| Description | What the enchant does (for a book with a level range, at the highest level in the range) |
Revealing the level#
Books from runes start with an unknown level. While the level is shown as a range you cannot apply the book: dragging it onto an item only tells you to right-click it first.
- Hold the book and right-click.
- The book is replaced by a copy with one fixed level. The level cannot be rerolled afterwards.
- The reveal can be announced in chat.
Which level you get depends on the mode: in Prison and Lifesteal every level up to the maximum is equally likely; in Skyblock and Survival lower levels are more likely (see level of the book). Books that already show a single level, such as single-level enchants, skip this step.
Applying a book#
- Open your own inventory. The item must be in your own inventory; items inside a chest or other container cannot be enchanted this way.
- Pick up the book with your cursor and click the item you want to enchant.
- The game checks, in this order:
- the book has a revealed level;
- the item does not already carry that enchant ("This item already has ...");
- the item type fits the enchant, the level is allowed and it does not conflict with an enchant already on the item ("You can't enchant this item with ...");
- the success roll (if the book has a success rate).
- On success the item gains the enchant at the book's level and the book is used up.
- On failure the book breaks ("Enchant failed! Your ... enchantment book broke!"). The item you tried to enchant is not harmed and keeps all its enchants.
Improving the success chance#
- Mystery Dust: drag onto a book to add a random 1% to 20% to its success rate. Several pieces can be stacked until the book reaches 100%.
- Golden Scroll: drag onto a book to make it succeed every time.
Both only work on books that still have a success rate below 100%.
Rules#
- Item types. Every enchant has a target such as swords, pickaxes or boots. See Enchant Targets.
- Conflicts. A small number of enchants cannot share an item with another specific enchant. The enchant's page says so when it applies.
- Count. There is no fixed limit on how many different custom enchants an item can carry.
- Stacking. Books do not stack; every book is its own item.
- Unwanted books. The enchant shop's Salvage Books button turns books into XP; see Salvage Books.
- Exclusive enchants come attached to crate rewards rather than as runes; see Exclusive Enchants.
Tips#
- Check the Destroy Rate before applying a valuable book. If it is high, add Mystery Dust or a Golden Scroll first.
- A failed roll costs you only the book; the item and its other enchants are never lost.
