Chat Channels

Public chat and the team channels for islands, gangs, clans, allies and towns, plus how to switch channels and send one-off messages.

Chat channels decide who reads what you type. You always talk in exactly one channel: public chat by default, or a team channel you switch to. Private conversations with a single player are a separate system covered on Private Messaging.

Public chat#

Public chat (the global channel) is the default. Everything you type goes to every player on the same gamemode, across all servers of that gamemode. The hub has its own public chat. Public chat messages are filtered (Chat Filter), formatted with your rank and name (Chat Formatting) and hidden from players who ignore you (Ignoring Players).

You cannot use /chat global <message> to send a one-off public message. Switch to public chat and type normally instead.

Team channels#

Team channels exist only where the team feature exists. Only members of your team see the messages, and each channel formats lines in its own style.

Team channels are described in more detail on Skyblock Islands, Gangs, Clans and Towns.

Quick prefixes#

Some team channels let you send a single message without switching. Start the message with the prefix character:

PrefixChannelGamemode
@Clan chatLifesteal
!Clan allies chatLifesteal
@Town chatSurvival

Island and gang chat have no prefix; use their commands.

Chat formats of team channels#

ChannelLine format
Island[Island] then your island role and name, then the message
Gang[Gang] then your name, then the message
ClanYour clan role and name, then the message
Clan allies[Clan Allies], your clan name, role and name, then the message
TownYour town prefix, your town role and name, then the message

Switching channels#

Use the commands in the tables above, or the generic command:

CommandEffect
/chatSwitch to public chat
/chat <channel>Switch to that channel, for example /chat island
/chat <channel> <message>Send one message to that channel without switching
/globalchatSwitch to public chat

Tab completion on /chat lists only the channels you can currently use. If you cannot enter a channel you see "You cannot enter ..." and stay where you were.

Team toggle commands (for example /island chat with no message) turn team chat on if you are in public chat and back off if you are already in it. Island and gang chat confirm with "Now talking in the island chat." or "No longer talking in the island chat." (gang chat likewise); clan, clan allies and town chat say, for example, "Clan chat is now enabled".

Turning public chat off#

If public chat is too busy, the Options menu has a Toggle Public Chat switch that stops you receiving public messages. See Settings and Options. Ignoring a single player is covered on Ignoring Players.
