Friends and Following

The website follow system where following each other makes two players friends, plus how blocking and messaging connect to it.

Friends on Netherite are managed on the website. You follow players to keep up with them, and when two players follow each other they become friends. There is no friends command in game: the friends list lives on the website and your private conversations are handled by Private Messaging.

How following works#

  • Follow a player from their website profile or from the Friends page search. Following is one way: the other player does not have to accept.
  • When the player you follow also follows you, you are friends, and both of your lists show a Friends badge.
  • Unfollow at any time from your Following list or the player's profile.

You need to be signed in to the website (Signing In to the Website) to use any of this.

The Friends page#

The Friends page has five tabs:

TabWhat it shows
FollowingPlayers you follow, with how long ago you followed them and an Unfollow button.
FollowersPlayers who follow you.
FriendsPlayers you follow who follow you back.
SearchLook up a player by name (3 to 16 characters: letters, numbers, _ and .) and follow them.
BlockedPlayers you blocked, with an Unblock button.

Lists show 20 players per page.

Limits#

  • You can follow up to 30 players per 10 minutes. If you hit the limit you are told to try again in a few minutes.
  • You cannot follow yourself.
  • You cannot follow a player you blocked or who blocked you.

Blocking#

Blocking a player stops them from sending you private messages and removes any follows between the two of you. Blocking on the website uses the same block list as the in-game /block <player> command, so a block you set on the website also applies in game. See Private Messaging for the in-game commands.

Friends and the game#

Being friends does not unlock anything in a gamemode by itself, and there are no join alerts or teleports tied to the friends list. To play together in a mode use the mode's own teams, such as islands, gangs, clans or towns. See Playing With Other Players.
