Private Messaging

How to send private messages to any player on the network with /msg and /r, read them in the Conversations menu or on the website, and block players you do not want to hear from.

Private messages let you talk to one other player no matter which gamemode or hub server they are on. Every message is saved in a conversation, so the other player can read it later even if they were offline. The same conversations are available in game and on the website.

Sending messages in game#

CommandAliasesWhat it does
/msg <player> <message>/pm, /dm, /message, /m, /w, /whisperSends a private message to a player and opens or continues your conversation with them.

The Conversations menu#

/conversations shows up to 45 recent conversations, ordered by last activity, as player heads with a preview of the last message, how long ago it was sent and the number of unread messages. The bottom row has these buttons:

Unread messages#

About three seconds after you join, if you have unread messages you get a summary: "You have N unread message(s) from ... reply with /r or read them with /conversations". The links in the message are clickable.

Blocking and ignoring#

/block <player> (alias /ignore) stops a player from messaging you. /unblock <player> (alias /unignore) reverses it, and /blocklist (alias /ignorelist) lists everyone you blocked. Blocking has these effects:

  • The blocked player cannot send you private messages. They see "You can't send messages to this player."
  • If you try to message someone you blocked you see "You have blocked this player. /unblock them to message."
  • Public chat messages from a blocked player are hidden from you.
  • You cannot block yourself, and some players are exempt and cannot be blocked.

On the website#

Signed-in players have a Messages page on the website with the same conversations as in game. Use the New message button and look up a player by username, or press Message on a player's profile (Player Profiles). Website messages are limited to 256 characters and follow the same rules: filters, mutes, blocks and the private message toggle all apply. Blocking a player from their website profile also blocks them in game.

Reporting abuse#

If someone sends you abusive messages, block them and follow Reporting Players.
