Ignoring Players

Ignoring Players

Hide a player's public messages and block their private messages with /ignore, and switch off private messages or public chat entirely.

Ignoring removes a player from your chat. An ignored player's public messages stop appearing for you and neither of you can start a private message with the other. The ignore list follows your account across the network, so it works the same on every gamemode and the hub.

What ignoring does#

  • Public chat. Messages the ignored player sends in public chat are not delivered to you.
  • Private messages. If you try to message someone you ignore, you see "You have blocked this player. /unblock them to message." and the message is not sent. If someone you ignore tries to message you, they see "You can't send messages to this player."
  • Ignoring does not hide the player in the world and does not stop them using team features. If someone is harassing you, report them. See Reporting Chat Messages and Support and Help.

Turning off private messages#

Rather than ignoring individual players, you can stop receiving private messages from everyone.

Way to do itDetails
/togglepmToggles private messages. Aliases: /togglemsg, /togglemessages, /pmtoggle, /msgtoggle, /messagestoggle, /toggledm, /dmtoggle
Options menuToggle Private Messages switch, see Settings and Options
Conversation inboxThe inbox opened by /conversations shows whether private messages are enabled.

When private messages are off, a player who tries to message you is told that a member of the conversation has private messages disabled. The same applies the other way: while yours are off you cannot send private messages either. Staff can still message you.

Turning off public chat#

The Options menu has a Toggle Public Chat switch. With it off you stop receiving public chat messages while team channels and private messages keep working. See Settings and Options.

Blocking from the inbox#

The conversation inbox, opened with /conversations, also lets you manage a single conversation, including blocking or unblocking the other player. Private messaging is explained on Private Messaging.
