Chat Formatting

Chat Formatting

How a public chat line is built on each gamemode, where your rank prefix, name colour, tag and chat colour show up, and what you can click.

Chat formatting is the layout of every public chat message: who sent it, which badges come before the name, and how the message text is coloured. The layout differs per gamemode because each mode adds its own progress badge in front of the name.

Parts of a chat line#

A public chat line is built from these parts, in this order:

  1. Mode badge (some gamemodes only, see the table below).
  2. Rank prefix, the coloured label of your donor or staff rank. See Donor Ranks.
  3. Your name, coloured with the colour of your rank prefix. If you use a nickname (Nicknames), the nickname is shown instead of your account name.
  4. Rank suffix, if your rank has one.
  5. Chat tag, the optional tag you equip from the tags menu. See Chat Tags.
  6. A colon, then your message. Your message is white unless you equip a chat colour (Chat Colors).

What you can click#

  • Hover your name to see "Click to send a message". Clicking a name puts /msg <player> into your chat box.
  • Click the message text to put /reportmessage <id> into your chat box. This is how you report a message. See Reporting Chat Messages.

Rank prefix and name colour#

Your rank prefix and name colour come from your rank on the current gamemode. Donor ranks are different on each gamemode: Skyblock uses Stone to Emerald, Prison uses Nomad to Caveman, Lifesteal uses Heart to Reaper and Survival uses Axolotl to Strider. See Donor Ranks for each ladder and its perks. Staff members show their staff rank instead.

Emojis#

Chat replaces shortcut text with a custom icon. One emoji is live on every gamemode:

:pie:A pie iconNo, everyone can use it

The shortcut can be tab-completed in chat like a player name.

Showcase placeholders#

Typing [item], [inv], [ec], [ah] or [tp] in a message replaces it with a clickable element. See Chat Item Showcase.

Team channel formats#

Messages in island, gang, clan, allied clan and town channels use their own layout instead of the table above. See Chat Channels.
