Chest shops let any player run a small store. You turn a chest into a shop for one item, set a price players pay to buy it and optionally a price you pay to buy it from them, and fill it with stock. Customers right-click the chest to buy or sell, even when you are offline.
Chest shops run on Skyblock, Prison and Survival. They are not available on Lifesteal or the hub.
Creating a shop#
You can create a shop in two ways. Both need an empty chest with two free blocks above it, because the shop's floating label needs the space.
With a sign#
- Place a chest where you are allowed to build.
- Attach a sign to the chest.
- Write
[SHOP],(SHOP)orshopon any line of the sign, in any letter case.
When you finish the sign the chest turns into a shop, you see Chest transformed into a shop., and the sign is removed and returned to you.
With a click#
Hold the item you want to sell, sneak and left-click an empty chest. A Create Chestshop window asks whether you want to turn the chest into a chest shop. Click Yes, create chestshop. The item in your hand becomes the shop's item. This method is on by default on all three gamemodes and can be switched off in your settings menu.
Rules#
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Block | Only a normal chest can become a shop. |
| Contents | The chest must be empty ("This chest is not empty."). |
| Space | Two blocks above the chest must be free ("It must have two blocks free above it."). |
| Item | Some items cannot be sold in chest shops ("This item can't be sold in a chest shop."). |
| Limit | You can own a limited number of shops, see below. |
Setting up your shop#
Right-click your own shop to open the owner menu.
- Select the item. Click an item from your inventory to make it the shop's item. You can only change the item while the shop has no stock.
- Set the buy price. This is what a customer pays you to take one item out of the shop. Leave it blank to disable buying.
- Set the sell price. This is what you pay a customer who sells one item to your shop. Leave it blank to disable selling to the shop. You are asked to confirm with Pay players for this item? when you set it.
- Pick the currency. Prices can be set in money or gems on Skyblock and Survival, and in tokens or gems on Prison.
- Manage stock. The storage menus let you deposit and withdraw items in steps of 1, 16, 32 or 64. Items are kept by the shop itself, not by the chest's inventory.
A shop can only be removed when it has no items inside ("Cannot remove shop with items inside."). Withdraw your stock first, then break the chest. Only the owner can break a shop.
Buying from and selling to a shop#
Right-click someone else's shop. If the shop has an item and at least one price, a Shop menu opens with two buttons:
| Button | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Buy | Shows the price per item and the stock. Disabled with "You cannot buy from this shop." when the owner has not set a buy price. |
| Sell | Shows the price you receive per item. Disabled with "You cannot sell to this shop." when the owner has not set a sell price. |
Clicking a button opens the Transaction menu, where you choose to trade 1, 16, 32 or 64 items at once. Messages after the trade tell you the result.
| Message | Reason |
|---|---|
| Trade successful. Bought nx item for price. | The purchase went through. |
| Trade successful. Sold nx item for price. | The sale went through. |
| The shop does not have enough items to buy. | The shop is out of stock. |
| The shop does not have enough money to sell. | The owner cannot afford the payout. |
| You do not have enough items to sell. | You are short of items. |
| You do not have enough money to buy. | You are short of the currency. |
| You do not have enough space to buy. | Your inventory is full. |
| This shop is processing another operation. | Another customer is mid-trade, try again. |
| This shop is not set up properly. | The owner has not chosen an item and a price yet. |
Owners get a chat notification each time someone buys from or sells to their shop, with the amount and the total.
Limits#
Every player can own 3 chest shops by default. Donor ranks raise the number. Reaching the cap shows "You have reached the maximum amount of shops you can create."
These are the shop counts on each rank's in-game rank page (on Prison, the rank perks in the store):
| Gamemode | Ranks and chest shops |
|---|---|
| Skyblock | Stone 5, Coal 10, Iron 15, Gold 20, Obsidian 25, Diamond 50, Emerald 100 |
| Survival | Axolotl 25, Allay 50, Glare 75, Illusioner 100, Hoglin 125, Strider 150 |
| Prison | Nomad 5, Forager 9, Scout 9, Huntsman 11, Savage 13, Caveman 20 |
See Donor Ranks for every rank perk.
Tax#
Gamemodes can withhold a share of what the receiving side of a trade earns.
| Gamemode | Chest shop tax |
|---|---|
| Skyblock | 2% |
| Prison | 0% |
| Survival | 0% |
Finding shops#
| Command | Aliases | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/shops | /chestshops | Opens the Chestshop Directory of every shop. |
/myshops | /mychestshops | Lists the shops you own. |
The directory lists shops with their item, stock, buy price and sell price. Use its filters to narrow it down, and right-click a filter to remove it:
- Search by item name
- Minimum stock, starting at 1 so empty shops are hidden
- Minimum buy price and minimum sell price
On Prison the directory also has a Category filter and a My Shops button.
Click a shop to teleport to it after a short warm-up. If the shop cannot be reached you are told why: the shop was not found, you are not allowed to teleport to it, there is no safe spot near it, or its server is unavailable.
My Shops is the list of your own shops. A shop can only be managed from the menu while you are on the server where it sits; otherwise you are asked to visit it.
From the shop menu#
The Skyblock and Survival shop menus include a Chest Shop Directory button. On Survival the shop is also linked to chest shops: items the server does not sell show the cheapest chest shop price, and buying one opens the directory with that item searched.
Differences by gamemode#
| Feature | Skyblock | Prison | Survival |
|---|---|---|---|
| Available | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Sneak + left-click creation | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Price currencies | Money, Gems | Tokens, Gems | Money, Gems |
| Default shop limit | 3 | 3 | 3 |
| Tax | 2% | 0% | 0% |
| Directory Category filter and My Shops button | No | Yes | No |
| Directory button in /shop | Yes | No | Yes, and buying player-stocked items opens the directory |
Tips#
- Price your shop against the shop sell prices: customers compare, and a sell price above the shop's own buy-side price attracts nobody.
- Keep a small stock of money in your balance if you set a sell price: the shop pays customers from your balance.
- Use the directory filters to find the cheapest seller before you buy stacks.
- Withdraw all stock before you move or remove a shop.
