Reporting Chat Messages

Reporting Chat Messages

How to report a public chat message to staff by clicking it, with /reportmessage or with /chatreport, and which reasons you can choose.

Chat reporting sends a specific public chat message to the staff team for review. You report the message itself, not just the player, so staff can see exactly what was said.

Report a message by clicking it (Java)#

  1. Click the text of the message in chat. This puts /reportmessage <id> in your chat box.
  2. Press Enter to run the command. A menu titled Report Reason opens.
  3. Click the reason that fits best. The report is sent and you see "Submitted report #<number> for message <id>. Our staff team has been notified of this report."

Report with /chatreport (Bedrock and Java)#

Some Bedrock clients cannot click or hover chat text. Use the command instead:

  1. Run /chatreport <player>.
  2. A menu lists that player's public messages from the last 15 minutes, newest first, with how long ago each was sent. If they have sent nothing recently the menu shows "No available messages".
  3. Click the message you want to report, then pick a reason in the Report Reason menu.

Reasons#

ReasonUse it for
ProfanitySwearing, slurs, hate speech and insults
SpamFlooding chat or repeated advertising
Illegal CharactersMessages that abuse unusual symbols
Excessive CharactersStretched or repeated letters
CapslockShouting in capital letters
OtherAnything else that breaks the rules

Rules for reports#

  • You cannot report your own message ("You cannot report your own message").
  • A message can only be reported once. A second attempt shows "This message has already been reported".
  • Players who abuse the report system can be blocked from it for a period. If that happens you see "You cannot report messages at this moment, you have been blacklisted from our report system" and need to contact support instead, see Support and Help.
  • Reports only cover public chat. For private messages, harassment or anything else, open a ticket, see Support Tickets.

What happens next#

Staff receive the report with the message, the reason and who sent it. Any action is a normal punishment; see Punishments.

Tips#

  • The automatic filter already blocks many offences. See Chat Filter.
  • If you only want a player out of your chat, use Ignoring Players.
