Tool enchants are the custom enchants from the Prison enchant shop that go on tools: Diamond Axe axes, pickaxes, shovels, hoes, shears and fishing rods. Seven of them are sold as runes: Bush Trimmer and Survivalist are Common, and Fire Forged, Shatter Expert, Slate Shatter, Tree Feller and XP Telekinesis are Legendary.
These are not the enchants of the Prison pickaxe. The pickaxe's own enchants are bought with tokens in a separate menu; see Pickaxe Enchants.
All tool enchants#
| Enchant | Rarity | Max level | Applies to | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bush Trimmer | Common | IV | Shears | 25% per level chance, when you cut a leaf block, to clear up to 75 connected leaves |
| Survivalist | Common | V | Fishing rods | 3% plus 3% per level chance that a caught fish comes out cooked |
| Fire Forged | Legendary | I | Any gear | Blocks such as fire and lava cannot destroy the item while it lies on the ground |
| Shatter Expert | Legendary | I | Axes, pickaxes, shovels, hoes and shears | Glass, glass panes, glowstone, sea lanterns, beacons and redstone lamps break instantly |
| Slate Shatter | Legendary | I | Pickaxes | Deepslate blocks break instantly |
| Tree Feller | Legendary | IV | Axes | 25% per level chance, when you break a log, to cut up to 50 connected logs |
| XP Telekinesis | Legendary | X | Swords, axes, pickaxes, shovels, hoes and shears | 10% per level chance that experience from a broken block or a killed mob goes straight to you |
How tool enchants work#
- The tool must be in your main hand, and the level on that tool is the level that counts. Fire Forged is the exception: it only works while the item lies on the ground as a dropped item.
- Chance enchants roll on every trigger. The chance is the base value plus the per-level value times the level, capped at 100%. None of them has a cooldown.
- Tree Feller and Bush Trimmer react to normal block breaks only. Logs or leaves that an enchant breaks for you never trigger them again.
- An item can carry each enchant once. Different tool enchants can share an item when they fit it, for example XP Telekinesis and Tree Feller on one axe. Axes also count as weapons, so they can carry weapon enchants too.
Tool enchants and the Prison pickaxe#
The Prison pickaxe is a Netherite Pickaxe, so a rune book whose target includes pickaxes can be applied to it: Shatter Expert, Slate Shatter, XP Telekinesis and Fire Forged. These rune enchants sit on the pickaxe next to its token enchants without affecting them. They do not change the pickaxe's enchant menu, prices or caps, and they neither trigger nor boost the token enchants.
They also do nothing to mine blocks. Every block you mine inside a mine is handled by the mine itself, which takes over the normal block break and pays you through the pickaxe's own system. Enchants that react to breaking a block, such as XP Telekinesis's block trigger, Tree Feller and Bush Trimmer, therefore never fire on mine blocks. The mines also contain no deepslate, logs or leaves. Fire Forged adds nothing to the Prison pickaxe either, because netherite items already survive fire and lava.
Tool enchants work wherever blocks are broken normally: on the plot area of a mine you are allowed to build in, and anywhere else you may break blocks. See Mines.
Chance by level#
| Level | Bush Trimmer | Survivalist | Tree Feller | XP Telekinesis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I | 25% | 6% | 25% | 10% |
| II | 50% | 9% | 50% | 20% |
| III | 75% | 12% | 75% | 30% |
| IV | 100% | 15% | 100% | 40% |
| V | - | 18% | - | 50% |
| VI to X | - | - | - | 60% to 100% (+10% per level) |
Fire Forged, Shatter Expert and Slate Shatter have one level and no chance roll: they always work.
Survivalist#
Survivalist is a Common fishing rod enchant that cooks your catch on the spot. When you catch something with an enchanted rod in your main hand, the game rolls the chance for the rod's level: 3% plus 3% per level, so 6% at level I and 18% at level V.
On a success, the caught item is swapped for its cooked version, keeping the same amount. A raw cod becomes a cooked cod and a raw salmon a cooked salmon. Catches that cannot be cooked, such as pufferfish, tropical fish and other loot, are left as they are, so a roll on them has no effect.
| Level | Chance to cook the catch |
|---|---|
| I | 6% |
| II | 9% |
| III | 12% |
| IV | 15% |
| V | 18% |
Survivalist has no cooldown, and it does not change what you catch, only whether it arrives cooked.
Shatter Expert#
Shatter Expert is a Legendary enchant for axes, pickaxes, shovels, hoes and shears. When you start breaking one of the blocks it covers with the enchanted tool in your main hand, the block breaks at once. There is no chance roll and no cooldown.
It covers glass blocks and glass panes of every colour, plus glowstone, sea lanterns, beacons and redstone lamps. The block still breaks through a normal block break, so build protection applies and it drops what the tool would normally get from it. Ordinary lanterns are not included.
Getting them#
Every tool enchant comes from a rune bought with experience points in the enchant shop. In Prison the runes cost 10,000 XP (Common), 25,000 XP (Uncommon), 35,000 XP (Rare) and 50,000 XP (Legendary). A rune gives a random enchant of its rarity, and every enchant in that rarity's Prison pool is equally likely.
| Rune | Price | Pool size | Tool enchants in the pool | Chance per rune for a given one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 10,000 XP | 7 | Bush Trimmer, Survivalist | 1 in 7 each |
| Legendary | 50,000 XP | 10 | Fire Forged, Shatter Expert, Slate Shatter, Tree Feller, XP Telekinesis | 1 in 10 each |
The book's level is chosen at random from I up to the enchant's maximum, with every level equally likely in Prison, and it is revealed with a right-click. Fire Forged, Shatter Expert and Slate Shatter have a single level, so their books come ready at level I. See Enchanted Books for applying books and what happens when one fails, and Enchant Targets for the items each target covers.
