Skin Mastery is a blast pickaxe enchant whose effect comes from the exclusive skin applied to your pickaxe. It charges up as you mine and then releases that skin's effect, which breaks a large part of your mine. It is bought with tokens from Prestige 0 through the Skin Mastery button of the Pickaxe Skins menu, which opens from the pickaxe enchant menu. It only works, and can only be levelled, while an exclusive pickaxe skin is applied.
Effect#
- Charging. Every block you mine yourself adds to a counter. When the counter reaches the number of blocks for your level, the effect fires and the counter starts again. There is no luck involved: at level 1 it fires once every 5,000 blocks, and at level 100 once every 500 blocks.
- The action bar shows your progress while you mine, for example "Skin Mastery 1,200/5,000". Blocks left over beyond the target carry into the next charge.
- Only blocks you break yourself count. Blocks broken by Skin Mastery or by any other enchant do not charge it.
- The counter does not charge while no exclusive skin is applied, while your mine is regenerating, or inside a prestige mine. It also starts from zero again when you leave the server.
- The effect. Each exclusive skin has its own effect (see the table below). Swapping skins keeps your level and your progress and simply changes which effect plays next.
- Size. One effect may break up to a third of your mine. Sinkhole is held to 12% of the mine and Whirlpool to 16%. Meltdown, Superposition, Bamboo Eruption, Rootbreak, Whirlpool and Abduction also stop at 22,000 blocks.
- Only blocks that belong to your mine are broken, and unbreakable blocks are skipped. They pay out like blocks you mine yourself: tokens go to your balance, drops go to your backpack, and Fortune and Token Finder apply to them.
- Chat announces each proc ("Your Skin Mastery enchant activated: Meltdown!") unless you have switched enchant activation messages off in your options.
Levels#
The menu shows the current rate as "Procs every N blocks mined". The number of blocks drops by the same factor with every level, from 5,000 at level 1 to 500 at level 100. Every 25 levels the effect also reaches a higher tier, which widens the spread of some effects; the size limit above still applies.
| Level | Blocks per proc | Effect tier |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5,000 | 1 |
| 10 | 4,056 | 1 |
| 15 | 3,610 | 1 |
| 25 | 2,861 | 2 |
| 50 | 1,600 | 3 |
| 57 | 1,359 | 3 |
| 75 | 894 | 4 |
| 100 | 500 | 5 |
Level 15 is the most you can buy at Prestige 0 and level 57 at Prestige 5.
Effects by skin#
Each exclusive pickaxe skin that has been offered in Prison has a Skin Mastery effect and a passive boost. Skins rotate through lootboxes, so not every skin below is obtainable at any given time.
| Skin | Skin Mastery effect | What happens | Skin boost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magma Pickaxe | Meltdown | Blocks scattered across the whole mine glow, melt and break | +5% tokens |
| Quantum Pickaxe | Superposition | Blocks scattered across the whole mine flicker through coloured glass and break | +5% beacons |
| Nautilus Pickaxe | Whirlpool | A spinning vortex drains a twisting funnel down toward the mine floor | +5% beacons |
| Panda Pickaxe | Bamboo Eruption | Bamboo pillars drive down through the full height of the mine, then break | +5% drops |
| Amberwood Pickaxe | Rootbreak | Wood and moss pillars drive down through the full height of the mine, then break | +5% drops |
| Pirate Pickaxe | Cannonade | Cannonballs rain onto the mine around you, each blasting a crater | +5% sell value |
| Beach Pickaxe | Sinkhole | A sand funnel opens in the mine and collapses | +5% sell value |
| Space Pickaxe | Abduction | A saucer hangs over the mine and lifts a column of blocks up its beam | +5% sell value |
The pillars, sand, glass and saucer shown during an effect are only visual and never placed in the world; the blocks that break are the mine's own, and they pay as usual.
The skin boost is separate from Skin Mastery: it works whenever you mine with that skin applied, whatever your Skin Mastery level. A tokens boost multiplies the tokens from your mined blocks, a drops boost the items they put in your backpack, a beacons boost the beacons you find, and a sell value boost the money from selling your backpack (counted for the skin you last mined with).
Cost and unlocking#
Skin Mastery is available from Prestige 0. Level 1 costs 250,000 tokens, and each further level costs more, following the formula on Pickaxe Enchant Costs. Your purchase cap is level 15 at Prestige 0, level 57 at Prestige 5 and reaches the full 100 levels at Prestige 10 (Pickaxe Enchant Caps). The maximum level does not change with rebirth.
You can only buy levels while the pickaxe in your hand has an exclusive skin applied. Without one the menu refuses with "Apply an exclusive pickaxe skin to level up Skin Mastery!". Skins are applied from the "Pickaxe Skins" button in the enchant menu; the Pickaxe Skins menu also holds the Skin Mastery button that opens its level menu. Exclusive pickaxe skins are cosmetics that can appear in lootboxes.
Notes#
- The level stays on the pickaxe when you remove or change the skin. With no skin applied it simply does nothing until you apply one again.
- Skin Mastery never triggers in prestige mines, because its effects clear a large part of the mine that other players share.
- The menu description speaks of a proc chance. Skin Mastery has no chance roll: it fires after the number of mined blocks shown in the menu.
