The Midnight Hourglass and the Constellation Pickaxe are two rare Prison items that turn mining into a short challenge. Both have been offered as very rare rewards in a limited-time lootbox, and both are single items that cannot be stacked. They can only be obtained while a lootbox that includes them is on offer, so do not assume they are available now; see Prison Crates.
Midnight Hourglass#
A clock with the lore "Make every moment before midnight count." Use it to start a Midnight streak.
| Goal | Break 20 blocks yourself within 20 seconds |
| Streak rule | Each break must come within 3 seconds of the one before |
| Reward | 1,000 tokens added straight to your balance |
| Cooldown | 25 seconds |
- Right-click the hourglass: "Midnight streak started (0/20 blocks)".
- Mine by hand. Progress shows as "Midnight streak (count/20 blocks)".
- Reach 20 breaks in 20 seconds without a gap over 3 seconds: "Midnight streak complete! Tokens added to your balance."
Only blocks you break yourself count, not those broken by enchants.
Constellation Pickaxe#
A netherite pickaxe with the lore "Connect three stars hidden in your mine." Use it to reveal three marked blocks in your own mine.
| Where | Your own private mine only |
| Goal | Break all three marked blocks yourself within 15 seconds |
| Reward | A mining burst of up to 27 blocks within 2 blocks of the last marked block |
| Cooldown | 30 seconds |
- Use the pickaxe: "Constellation revealed (3 targets)". Only you see the marked blocks, which glow through walls on Java Edition and are outlined with particles, with a beam above the mine.
- Break each one by hand: "Starlight found (N targets remaining)".
- When the third breaks, the burst clears the blocks around it, and they pay as normal mining.
Blocks removed by something other than your own break (an enchant, a bomb or the robot) no longer count as targets.
Tips#
- Reset your mine before using either item so there are blocks to break.
- Both items have a cooldown, so you can repeat the challenge as often as the cooldown allows.
