Every minion starts at level 1 and can reach level 100. It earns experience while you play and levels up on its own, and each level makes its boost stronger.
Where minion XP comes from#
Only a minion you have equipped earns XP, and it earns the same amount as any other equipped minion would.

The mining cap means a player can earn at most 14,400 XP per hour from mining, so levels cannot be ground out overnight. A minion that levels up tells you: "(minion) reached level (N)!"
The Necromancer's "experience" boost is not minion XP. It raises the ordinary experience you gain.
Levels#
The XP needed to go from level L to level L + 1 is 50 × L^1.4, rounded, so every level costs more than the last. At the maximum level of 100 XP stops and there is nothing left to earn.

Reaching level 100 from level 1 takes about 1,298,750 XP in total. From mining alone at the 240 XP per minute cap that is roughly 90 hours of continuous mining; dungeon kills speed it up a lot.
What a level does#
A minion's boost moves in a straight line from its level 1 value to its level 100 value, so each level adds a small, equal share. Potion effects such as Speed step up by a whole level near the top. See Minion Kinds for every boost.
Tips#
- Equip a minion before a long mining session; it only learns while it is out.
- A minion you turn into a voucher keeps its level and XP, so a leveled minion can be traded.
