Gang Chat

How to talk privately with your gang on Prison, including toggling the channel, one-off messages, who can read them and the gang tag shown in public chat.

Gang chat is a private channel that only the members of your gang can read. Use it to coordinate mining runs, share perk timings and talk without the public chat seeing it.

Using gang chat#

CommandResult
/gang chatSwitches the gang channel on or off for you. While it is on, everything you type goes to the gang only. Switching on says "Now talking in the gang chat." and switching off says "No longer talking in the gang chat."
/gang chat <message>Sends a single message to the gang and leaves your normal chat channel unchanged.

Gang messages appear in this format:

[Gang] PlayerName: message

Who can talk and who can listen#

  • You must be in a gang. Without one, the command answers "You are not in a gang."
  • Your rank must be allowed to use gang chat. Every rank is allowed by default, and the owner or a Co-owner can raise the required rank in the permissions menu. See Gang Members and Roles.
  • Only members who may use gang chat receive the messages, so a rank that has lost the permission neither sends nor reads them.
  • If you leave the gang or lose the permission while the channel is switched on, your chat returns to the normal channel.
  • Gang messages are recorded for moderation, in the same way as other player chat. The server rules still apply. See Chat for the general chat features.

The gang tag in public chat#

When you are in a gang, your public chat messages start with a tag in square brackets showing your gang's name. Hovering over the tag shows the gang's name, its leader and its members. Your gang also shows below your name above your head and on the Prison scoreboard (gang name, beacon total and leader).

If your rank has access to chat showcases, typing [gang] or [g] in public chat posts a hoverable "Player's Gang" tag that shows the same details to everyone reading.
