World protection rules are server-wide settings for each world. They work on top of claims: a claim protects your chunk from players, while world rules decide things like whether players can hurt each other at all.
Rules by world#
| World | PvP | Building | Other rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overworld, Nether, End | Off | Governed by claims | Explosions break no blocks |
| Resource worlds | Off | Normal | Explosions break no blocks |
| Spawn | Off (no damage of any kind) | Off | No damage and no hunger loss |
| PvP world | On | Off | Fall damage and hot floor damage are off. Portals and flying are off |
- PvP off means you cannot damage other players in the main worlds, in resource worlds or in spawn.
- Other worlds that are not part of the Survival setup are locked: no damage, no building, no hunger loss and no item dropping.
What this means in practice#
- Other players cannot kill you in your base or when you travel, unless you agree to a duel in a claim. See Claim Duels.
- No explosion breaks blocks in the main worlds or the resource worlds: creepers, TNT, beds used in the Nether and respawn anchors all leave the terrain intact, claimed or not.
- Explosions can still hurt players and mobs. Inside a claim, the Explosions toggle decides whether an explosion happens at all. See Claim Toggles.
- Same-town fights are only possible where PvP is already allowed. See Town Chat and Member Teleport.
