A town has three roles: Mayor, Deputy and Citizen. People join by invitation only, there is no join request, and everyone starts as a Citizen.
Roles#
| Role | How you get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mayor | You found the town, or receive it by transfer | Exactly one per town. Cannot be demoted or kicked, and cannot leave |
| Deputy | Promoted by the Mayor | Can be given extra powers in the permission menu |
| Citizen | Accepting an invite | The default role for new members |
By default only the Mayor may invite, kick, rename, set warps and use the vault. The Mayor can hand most of these to Deputies or Citizens. See Town Permissions.
Invite a player#
- Run
/town invite <player>. - The player gets "You've been invited to join <town> by <mayor>." with a clickable
/town accept <town>. The whole town sees a message about the invite. - The invite expires after 5 minutes. The player is told "Your town invite has expired." if they ignore it.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/town invite <player> | Send an invite |
/town cancel <player> | Cancel a pending invite |
/town invites | Open the list of pending invites. Click one to revoke it |
An invite is refused when the player is already invited ("This player is already invited.") or the town is full ("The town has reached its member limit."). Raise the limit in Town Upgrades.
Join a town#
- Accept with
/town accept <town>, or click the message. You see "You have accepted the town invite." - Decline with
/town reject <town>. - You must not be in another town. A player who is already in a town can still be invited, but accepting fails with "The player is already a member of another guild." and uses up the invite. Leave your current town first.
- The member limit is checked again when you accept, so an invite cannot take a full town over its limit.
Promote, demote and kick#
Open the town menu with /town and click the owner head to see all members in the Town Members menu. If you hold Kick Members or Set Member Roles, clicking a member opens the Town Member menu with kick, demote and promote buttons. The commands do the same:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/town promote <player> | Raise a Citizen to Deputy |
/town demote <player> | Lower a Deputy to Citizen |
/town kick <player> | Remove a member from the town |
- Promote and demote need the Set Member Roles permission. By default that is the Mayor only.
- Someone who is not the Mayor can only change roles of people ranked below them, and can never hand out their own rank. In practice only the Mayor can promote or demote, even if Deputies hold Set Member Roles.
- "You cannot promote a player to a higher role." and "You cannot demote a player to a lower role." appear at the ends of the ladder.
- The Mayor cannot change their own role.
- Kicking needs Kick Members. You cannot kick yourself or the Mayor. Unlike role changes, a Deputy with Kick Members can kick other Deputies.
Leave a town#
/town leave removes you from the town. The Mayor cannot leave: "The town owner cannot leave the town." Transfer ownership or disband first. See Creating a Town. After leaving you must wait 1 minute before founding a new town.
Town notices#
Members see a town message when someone joins, leaves or is kicked, is promoted or demoted, or becomes the new Mayor.
Town residents in claims#
Everyone in the same town counts as a town resident in each other's personal claims, which by default lets them build there. See Trust and Guests.
