Spawner Production and Drops

How a spawner produces mobs on Survival: cycle timing, caps, activation, drops, experience, the panel and holograms.

A placed spawner produces mobs for you to kill. On Survival it works in physical mode: it spawns real mobs next to the block, and the mobs' drops and experience fall in the world where you kill them.

Production cycle#

  • Every 30 seconds (checked every 15 seconds) an active spawner adds mobs to its stack.
  • The number added is the stack size times the Spawn Amount multiplier, up to 32 mobs per cycle. A stack of 64 therefore adds 32 mobs per cycle without upgrades.
  • The mobs appear within 4 blocks of the spawner, inside the spawner's chunk, and join the spawner's existing mob stack if there is one, so you see a single stacked mob such as Zombie x32.
  • Cycles use the 30-second interval divided by the Spawn Speed multiplier: see Spawner Upgrades.

When a spawner works#

ConditionRule
ActivationA player must be within 32 blocks. The owner does not have to be online
RoomThe spawner stops adding mobs when it reaches its cap: 128 mobs per spawner, 384 spawner mobs per chunk or 128 of the same mob within 4 blocks, whichever comes first
SpaceThe mobs need open space near the spawner; if the spawner is walled in it still grows an existing mob stack
PausedA spawner you paused with /spawner pause does nothing until you /spawner resume
Chunk loadersA battery-powered chunk loader in the spawner's chunk keeps it working with nobody nearby

A powered Mob Summoner machine within 16 blocks of a spawner doubles its production speed (the 30-second cycle becomes 15 seconds). Several summoners in range do not stack.

Drops and experience#

  • Killing a stacked mob removes one mob from the stack. Its drops and experience drop at the mob, exactly like a normal mob.
  • The Drop Chance upgrade adds extra copies of each drop: see Spawner Upgrades.
  • Experience can be increased by spawner XP boosters.
  • Mobs spawned by a spawner pay reduced mob points (40% of the wild rate) and count for Slayer XP: see Mob Points and Slayer Skill. They do not count for kill milestones, which only count wild mobs.

The spawner panel#

Right-click a placed spawner to open its Survival Spawner panel. Anyone can open it; only the owner can change things.

SlotWhat it does
Monster Spawner InfoShows the mob, stack size, mode, virtual support, storage, stored experience and whether the spawner is paused
Chest Collect storageCollects stored items and XP (always empty on Survival)
Emerald Buy this spawnerOpens the shop buy screen for another spawner of this type
Amethyst Shard UpgradesOpens the Spawner Upgrades menu
Withdraw buttonsTake 1, half, a custom amount or all spawners out: see Spawner Stacking
Barrier CloseCloses the panel

The production-mode button is hidden on Survival because virtual mode is not available.

Hologram#

A floating label above each spawner shows <Mob> Spawner, its Stack size, its Mode, its Status (Active, Paused with the reason, or Storage full) and the number of stored items and XP.

Commands#

See the command table on Spawners: /spawner info, /spawner panel, /spawner pause and /spawner resume. Virtual production is not available on Survival, so switching a spawner to virtual mode is refused.
