Claim upgrades are paid improvements for one claimed chunk. The tier of a claim sets how many spawners and villagers that chunk may hold. Two separate one-off upgrades let crops grow without water or without light.
Open the menu in a chunk you own with /claim upgrade. Costs are charged to your money balance. See Money. Tiers and crop upgrades are for personal claims only: land claimed by a town cannot be upgraded and keeps the tier 1 caps.
Tiers: spawner and villager caps#
Every claim starts at tier 1. Each tier applies to one chunk, so a base spread across several chunks needs each chunk upgraded on its own.

You buy tiers in order, one at a time, with the green Upgrade to Tier N button. At tier 5 the button reads Max Tier Reached. The menu shows past tiers crossed out, your current tier in green, the next tier in yellow and later tiers in white. The costs in the table are the amounts charged.
Spawner cap#
- Spawners can only be placed in a claim you own or were added to as a guest (global guests do not count). Anywhere else, placing a spawner is blocked with "You can only place spawners in claims you own."
- Placing one over the cap fails with "Spawner limit reached! This claim (Tier N) allows N spawners."

Villager cap#
- Villagers over the cap, from breeding, curing or being moved in by boat, minecart or leash, are marked for removal.
- About 10 seconds after a villager is marked it is removed, and players in that chunk see "Villager limit exceeded! Excess villagers will be removed. Upgrade using /claim upgrade".
- Every 5 seconds the game checks the chunk each online player is standing in for villagers that arrived without spawning there.
Checking a chunk#
/claim info in any claimed chunk shows the tier, the number of spawners out of the cap and the number of villagers out of the cap in that chunk.
Crop upgrades#

- Each upgrade is bought per claim and is permanent for that claim. The button shows (Owned) afterwards.
- If your rank already unlocks an upgrade on every claim you own, the button shows (Rank Perk) and buying is refused with "Your rank already unlocks that upgrade on every claim you own." You are never charged for a perk your rank already gives.
- A rank perk follows the claim owner's rank, so a guest's rank never unlocks an upgrade on someone else's land.
