Claim Permissions

Claim Permissions

Every claim permission on Survival with its default role, how global and per-claim settings combine, and how to change them in the menus.

Claim permissions decide who may do what inside a claim. Each permission is set to the lowest role allowed to use it. The owner configures them per claim in the Claim Permissions menu, or for all claims in the global menu.

How settings combine#

For each permission the game checks, in order:

  1. The setting on the claim itself (an override).
  2. Your global setting from /claim global.
  3. The default in the table below.

The first one that exists wins. In the menus, left-click cycles a permission forward through the roles and right-click cycles it back. On a claim, clicking past the last role returns it to Using global setting, which clears the override. In the global menu the roles wrap around: once you set a global value, choose the role you want rather than expecting it to return to the default.

The role names in the menu are Everyone, Town Residents, Guest, Only Me and Nobody. A player may use a permission if their role is the chosen role or a stronger one.

Defaults in practice#

A brand new claim lets the owner, guests and town mates build and use blocks, and lets everyone fight hostile mobs and fly. Strangers cannot build, break, open containers, use doors or buttons, or take items. Item pick-up, drops and fishing are limited to guests and the owner. Nobody can trigger a raid or start a duel until the owner opens it up.

Examples#

  • Keep townmates out of your base: set Building, Block Interactions, Container Access and the other Town Residents settings to Guest or Only Me.
  • Make a public farm: set Crop Interactions and Crop Destroy to Everyone on that claim only.
  • Let visitors use your doors but not build: set Block Interactions to Everyone, leave Building alone.
  • Stop guests from creating homes or player warps in your land: set Create Home to Only Me.
  • Stop players flying over your claim: set Fly to Only Me. Flight is switched off the moment they cross in, and fall damage from that moment is cancelled.

Which permission a block uses#

There are no separate permissions for doors, buttons, levers, pressure plates or spawners. They follow these broader permissions:

BlockPermission
Doors, buttons, levers, weighted pressure platesBlock Interactions
Other pressure plates, fence gatesBuilding
TrapdoorsDecoration Interactions
Spawners (placing and breaking)Building
