Spawner Stacking

How spawners stack into a single block, how to add to and withdraw from a stack, and how stacked mobs work.

Stacking lets you combine spawners of the same mob into one block, up to 64 spawners. A bigger stack produces more mobs per cycle. You can add to a stack by placing more spawners and take spawners back out through the spawner's panel.

Adding spawners to a stack#

  1. Hold a spawner of the same mob type as the one already placed.
  2. Place it against the placed spawner block.
  3. The spawner joins the stack and the hologram above the block updates its Stack number.

A stack holds at most 64 spawners; beyond that you see That spawner stack cannot hold any more. Spawners of different mobs cannot be stacked together (Those spawners cannot be stacked together; their type, mode or upgrades do not match.).

Stacking follows the same claim rules as placing: you must be in a claim you own or are a guest of, and if the chunk already holds as many spawner blocks as its claim tier allows, adding to a stack there is refused as well (Spawner limit reached! ...). See Claim Upgrades.

Adding to an upgraded stack#

Upgrades apply to every spawner in a stack, so a spawner you add that has no upgrades has to be brought up to the stack's level. When you place an unupgraded spawner against an upgraded stack, the Add Spawners To Stack menu opens:

  • The summary shows the placed stack size and the resulting stack size, the upgrade levels the added spawners are being brought up to, and the total price. Prices are per spawner added and use the same per-level price as normal upgrades, see Spawner Upgrades.
  • Click Lime Dye Confirm to pay and merge, or Barrier Cancel to keep the spawner.
  • If a spawner you hold already has more upgrade levels than the placed stack, or you cannot afford the price, it cannot be merged.

If the added spawners only differ in shared buffers the stack already owns, there is nothing to pay and they merge straight away.

Withdrawing spawners#

Right-click a placed spawner to open its panel, then use the bottom row:

ButtonWhat it does
Iron Nugget Withdraw 1Takes one spawner out of the stack
Iron Ingot Withdraw halfTakes half of the stack, rounded down, and at least one
Paper Withdraw custom amountPrompts Enter the number of spawners to withdraw; type a number from 1 to the stack size
Chest Withdraw allTakes the whole stack and removes the block

Only the spawner's owner can withdraw. Chat confirms Withdrew N spawner(s); M remain placed. or Withdrew all N spawner(s). Withdrawn spawners go to your inventory, or drop at the spawner if your inventory is full.

Upgrades on withdrawn spawners#

  • If every level on the stack was bought at the per-spawner price (the normal case), the withdrawn spawners keep their production upgrades (Spawn Speed, Spawn Amount and Drop Chance).
  • If the stack still holds levels bought before per-spawner pricing, the withdrawn spawners come back with no upgrades and the upgrades stay with the placed stack.
  • Storage capacity and XP capacity upgrades never travel with a withdrawn spawner.

Stacked mobs#

The mobs a spawner produces also stack: instead of dozens of separate mobs you see one mob with a name like Zombie x24 showing how many it represents.

  • Killing a stacked mob removes one from the stack, and the rest stay as a new stack. Drops and experience are for one mob per kill.
  • Extra kills from perks and enchants can take more than one mob from the stack per hit, up to 16 extra mobs per kill. The Slayer Stack perk is one of them: see Slayer Skill.
  • A spawner will not produce more mobs than its cap: 128 mobs per spawner, 384 spawner mobs per chunk and 128 of the same mob within 4 blocks. Kill the stack to make room.
  • Stacked mobs are not held inside the spawner's chunk on Survival: they can wander across chunk and claim borders like other mobs.
