Skills

Survival's skill system: level Mining, Farming, Forestry, Fishing and Slayer by playing normally and unlock passive perks.

Skills are Survival's long-term progression tracks. Each skill levels up automatically as you do the matching activity, and every level you reach can unlock passive perks such as double drops, extra damage or a short Haste boost. There is nothing to start or activate: play, and the skill bars fill.

The Skills menu#

Run /skills to open the Skills menu. It shows one icon per skill:

Hovering a skill shows its current level, a progress bar, your XP out of the XP needed for the next level, and a list of the perks you have unlocked so far. Click a skill to open its skill tree. The Enchanted Book Info item explains that each skill has unique perks that unlock as you level up and that skills activate automatically.

The skill tree#

The Skills Tree menu lays out the levels of one skill as a winding path of glass panes, 21 to 24 levels per page across 4 pages, so the tree shows levels 1 to 90. Use the arrows in the bottom row to change page, and the Arrow Back button (top left) to return to the skill overview.

PaneMeaning
Lime Stained Glass Pane GreenYour current level, with your progress towards the next one
Yellow Stained Glass Pane YellowA level you have already passed
Red Stained Glass Pane RedA level you have not reached yet

Each pane lists the perks you would have at that level, and a green New! marks the level at which a perk first unlocks. The Rewards section of every pane currently reads "None".

Perks#

  • Perks are passive. When their trigger happens (breaking a block, killing a mob, catching a fish) the game rolls the perk's chance, and a perk with a cooldown can fire at most once per cooldown.
  • Chance, duration and effect size grow with each level from the perk's unlock level.
  • Perks use your skill level, so they are active as soon as you reach their level.
  • Several perks drop bonus Enchanted Items, which can be sold in the shop.

Turning perks off#

Open /options (aliases /settings, /preferences) to find three skill switches:

OptionEffect
Skill Trigger PerksTurns every skill perk off or on
Toggle Skill Mining ExplosionTurns only the Mining Explosion perk off or on
Slayer Double-Kill PerkTurns only the Slayer Stack perk off or on

What you see while levelling#

  • An action-bar line shows the skill's level, the percent progress with a bar and the XP just gained.
  • When you level up, a gold LEVEL UP! title shows your old and new level and a level-up sound plays.
