Sweep is a Rare enchant for Diamond Axe axes. Every melee hit you land also damages other creatures standing near the target: 1.5 damage per level to as many as three of them within 3.5 blocks.
How to get it#
- Rare rune. A Rare rune costs 30,000 XP in the enchant shop. The Rare pool holds 12 enchants, so one Rare rune in twelve gives Sweep. The book has a random success chance and an unrevealed level; see Enchanted Books.
Sweep does not appear on any crate gear.
Effect#
When you hit a target with the axe in your main hand, the enchant picks up to 3 other living creatures within 3.5 blocks of the target and damages each for 1.5 per level. The splash happens on every melee hit, with no chance roll and no cooldown.
- The target you hit, you yourself and dead creatures are skipped.
- The splash counts as a hit from you, so an area that stops you from attacking a creature stops the splash on it too.
- Splash damage does not trigger Sweep again.
- Only melee hits trigger it. Arrows and other projectiles do not.
- The splash never harvests island spawners. When you swing among a row of spawners, only the spawner you actually hit is harvested. See Managed Spawners.
Levels#
| Level | Splash damage per creature | In hearts | Max targets |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | 1.5 | 0.75 | 3 |
| II | 3 | 1.5 | 3 |
| III | 4.5 | 2.25 | 3 |
| IV | 6 | 3 | 3 |
| V | 7.5 | 3.75 | 3 |
Armor and damage resistance reduce splash damage like any other hit.
Notes and tips#
- Sweep is an axe enchant only. Swords cannot carry it, and it is separate from the sweeping attack that swords have in vanilla Minecraft.
- It is aimed at crowds: the best use is a group of mobs clustered around the target.
- A rune book reveals a random level from I to V, and the lower levels are the likelier ones; see level of the book.
