Creating an island gives you a private Skyblock world of your own to build, farm and expand. Every Skyblock player starts by creating one with /is create (or /island create), or by joining another player's island instead. Creating an island is free.
Quick start#
- At the Skyblock spawn, type
/island. Until you have an island, the sidebar shows "Island: None" with "Create with /island", and the action bar says "Use /island to get started!". - In the Your Skyblock Islands menu, click the green Create Island button. The Create Island menu opens.
- Click Original Island. You see "Your island has been created with the default template!" followed by "Teleporting you to your island...", and you arrive at the spawn point of your new island.
/is create opens the same Create Island menu directly. /is create default skips the menu and creates the island at once. /is home also opens the menu when you do not have an island yet.
The Create Island menu#
The menu is a three-row window titled Create Island. It lists one button per island template.
| Button | Icon | Tooltip | What a click does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Island | Player head | "Go back to basics with this island!" and "Click to create the island..." | Closes the menu, creates your island and teleports you to it |
Island templates:
- Original Island is the only template offered on Skyblock. Anyone can use it; no rank or permission is needed.
/is create [template]suggests onlydefault, the template behind Original Island. A template name that does not exist answers "The template does not exist!".- The island world is a copy of the template. It is built from the template the first time you enter it, so your first arrival can take a moment longer than later ones.
Limits and cooldown#
| Rule | Default value | What you see when you hit it |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to create an island | Free | |
| Islands you can own | 2 | "You have reached the maximum number of islands you can own!" |
| Islands you can join as a member | 3 | "You have reached the maximum number of islands you can be a member of!" |
| Wait between creating islands | 1 minute | "You must wait before creating another island!" |
- Owned islands are the ones where you are the owner. Joined islands are the ones where you are a member but not the owner. The two limits are counted separately: with the defaults you can own 2 islands and also be a member of 3 islands owned by other players.
- When you own as many islands as you may, the Create Island button in the island menu turns into a red barrier named Island Limit Reached and does nothing when clicked. Disband or hand over an island to free a slot, see Deleting and Resetting an Island.
- When you already belong to as many islands as you may join, the Find an Island button in the same menu warns "You have no free member slot. Leave an island to free one up.". The browser still opens. If someone invites you at that point, the invite fails and the inviter sees "The target has reached their joined island limit!".
- The 1 minute wait counts from the moment you last created an island. Disbanding an island does not reset it, so deleting an island and creating a new one straight away only works once a full minute has passed since the previous creation.
- The numbers above are the default limits. Limits are looked up for each player, so an individual player can have different numbers. The Island Information book in the island picker always shows your own current limits.
What a new island starts with#
- You as the Owner, no other members, no warps and the default permission and setting choices.
- The first level of every upgrade. See Island Upgrades for the ladders and their costs.
- A private island. Nobody but its members can teleport in until it is opened, see Public and private islands.
- An Overworld to build on. Each island also has a Nether and an End that are unlocked later, see Island Dimensions (Nether and End).
Creating an island does not charge you anything and does not give you items. The island world unloads one minute after the last player leaves it and loads again on the next visit.
Where you land#
You arrive at your island's spawn point in the Overworld. Island teleports have no countdown at the moment. Any member can move the spawn point with /is sethome, see Island Warps and Visiting. /is home (alias /is go) brings you back from anywhere on Skyblock.
Naming your island#
A new island has no name of its own and is shown as <owner>'s Island. You can give it a custom name.
| Command | Aliases | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/is name <name> | /is rename | Sets the island name. Spaces are allowed |
/is resetname | /is clearname | Removes the custom name. The island goes back to <owner>'s Island |
Rules for a name:
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Length | 3 to 24 characters |
| Allowed characters | Letters A-Z and a-z, digits, spaces, underscores _, apostrophes ' and hyphens - |
| Spaces | Extra spaces at the start or end are removed and a run of spaces becomes one space |
| Blocked words | Some words are blocked |
| Unique | No. Two islands can have the same name |
- A name that breaks the length or character rules answers "That island name is not valid!". A name that contains a blocked word answers "That island name is not allowed!".
- Setting a name needs the Set Island Name permission, which belongs to Co-Owner and above by default. The owner can change that in the permissions menu. Without it you get "You don't have permission to do that!".
- Success answers "Your island is now named
<name>!". Resetting answers "Your island name has been cleared, it is now<owner>'s Island.". - The name is what the island menus, the island picker and invite messages show for the island.
/is infoalways shows the owner's name instead.
Public and private islands#
New islands are private. Members can always enter their island.
| Command | Aliases | Needs | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
/is open | /is public | Open Island, Co-Owner and above by default | Anyone who is not banned can teleport to the island |
/is close | /is private | Close Island, Officer and above by default | Only members can teleport in |
Both answer "Your island public status has been changed to <Public or Private>". An island with public warps cannot be closed: "You cannot make your island private if it has public warps!". The Island Status block in the island menu does the same with one click. The full rules for visiting, warps and bans are on Island Warps and Visiting.
Owning and joining several islands#
You can belong to more than one island at the same time, within the limits above. Your islands appear together in the Your Skyblock Islands menu that /island opens: islands you own in gold, islands you joined in aqua. See The Island Menu for every button.
Which island does a command act on?#
Island commands such as /is settings, /is invite <player> or /is leave act on one island. They pick it in this order:
- If you are standing in the world of an island you belong to (Overworld, Nether or End), that island is used.
- Otherwise, if you belong to exactly one island, that island is used.
- Otherwise you see "You have multiple islands. Please select one." and the Select an Island menu opens. Click the island you mean and the command continues with it.
The Select an Island menu is also used when a command can point at several islands: /is home when you have more than one island, /is visit <player> and /is info <player> when that player has several, and accepting or rejecting an invite from someone who owns several islands. Only the islands that invited you are listed for an invite. The menu has an Island Information book that shows your counts, for example "Owned Islands: 1/2" and "Member Islands: 0/3".
The sidebar, island chat and similar features use the island you are standing on, or else the island you picked last (your only island, if you have just one).
Checking an island#
| Command | What it prints |
|---|---|
/is info [player] (aliases /is show, /is who) | "<owner>'s Island", its Status (Public or Private) and its Members, each with their role. With a player name it shows that player's island, with the picker if they have several. Any player can look up any player |
/is list | "Island Members:" and every member of your island with their role, highest role first. It lists members, not your islands. Use /island to see your islands |
/is online [player] | "Online members:" with members who are online on Skyblock in green and the others in red, online ones first |
/is strikes [player] | The strikes staff have recorded against you, or against the player you name. "This island has no strikes." means none. Strikes follow the player to every island they own, see Island Top |
Messages you may see#
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "You don't have an island! Try creating one with /island create command!" | You are not a member of any island |
| "You have reached the maximum number of islands you can own!" | You own as many islands as you may |
| "You must wait before creating another island!" | The 1 minute wait since your last creation is still running |
| "The template does not exist!" | The template name after /is create is not one that exists |
| "That island name is not valid!" | The name is too short, too long or uses a character that is not allowed |
| "That island name is not allowed!" | The name contains a blocked word |
| "You don't have permission to do that!" | Your role does not hold the permission needed |
Tips#
- Use
/is name <name>early. The name shows up in menus and invites, which makes several islands easier to tell apart. - Keep an open slot on both limits if you want to be able to accept an invite or take over a friend's island later.
- Your second owned island is a fresh start. Upgrades, value and masteries belong to one island, so a new island begins at the first level of everything.
