Opening Hit is an Uncommon enchant for Diamond Sword swords. The first hit you land on a target deals extra damage, 20% more per level, so level V doubles it. The bonus comes back for that target once 6 seconds have passed.
How to get it#
- Uncommon rune. An Uncommon rune costs 15,000 XP in the enchant shop. The Uncommon pool holds 12 enchants, so one Uncommon rune in twelve gives Opening Hit. The book has a random success chance and an unrevealed level; see Enchanted Books.
Opening Hit does not appear on any crate gear.
Effect#
Opening Hit keeps a 6-second timer for each target you hit. When you hit a target whose timer is not running, the hit gets the bonus and the timer starts. Hits on that target while the timer runs get no bonus. Once it has run out, your next hit on that target gets the bonus again. The sword must be in your main hand.
- Each target has its own timer. Switching to a new mob gives you a fresh opening hit, so the enchant is strongest against groups.
- The timer is not refreshed by later hits. It runs from the hit that used the bonus, so a long fight against one target gets the bonus about once every 6 seconds.
- It applies to any target, mobs and players alike.
- Its bonus is added to your other damage enchants; see how combat enchants work together.
Levels#
| Level | Extra damage on the opening hit |
|---|---|
| I | +20% |
| II | +40% |
| III | +60% |
| IV | +80% |
| V | +100% (double damage) |
Notes and tips#
- It is a sword enchant only. Axes cannot carry it.
- Opening Hit pairs well with Giantkiller against single large targets, and with quick target swaps against crowds.
- A rune book reveals a random level from I to V, and the lower levels are the likelier ones; see level of the book.
