Island Chat is a private chat channel shared by the members of one island. A message sent in it reaches the island's members only, not the rest of Skyblock. It is a quick way to coordinate farming, building and visitors with your team.
Using island chat#
| Command | Alias | What it does |
|---|---|---|
/is chat | /is tc | Switches island chat on or off. While it is on, everything you type in normal chat goes to your island. You see "Now talking in the island chat." when you switch it on and "No longer talking in the island chat." when you switch it off |
/is chat <message> | /is tc <message> | Sends one message to your island and leaves your chat mode as it is |
- The long forms
/island chatand/island tcwork too. - There is no chat prefix. A message only goes to the island if you toggled island chat on or used one of the commands above.
- The network's channel command also reaches island chat:
/chat islandswitches you to it with "Switched to island chat.", and/chat island <message>sends a single message./chator/globalchatswitches you back to global chat. See Chat for the channel commands.
Who sees a message#
- Every member of the island who is online and holds the Chat permission, you included. They do not need to be standing on the island.
- By default the Default role and above hold Chat, which is every member. The owner can raise the minimum role in the permissions menu. Members below that role can then neither send nor read island chat.
- Only members take part. Co-op players, visitors and banned players do not see island chat.
- The island must be one you belong to. Without an island,
/is chatanswers "You don't have an island! Try creating one with /island create command!".
Format#
An island chat message looks like this, with your island role and your name coloured like your rank:
[Island] Owner Steve: Meet me at the farm
The parts are the gray [Island] tag, your island role (Owner, Co-Owner, Officer, Trusted or Default), your name and the message in white.
Which island gets the message#
If you belong to several islands, the message goes to the island you are standing in. When you are not standing in one of your islands, it goes to the island you picked last, or to your only island if you have just one. See Creating an Island for how the island is chosen.
- With several islands and no island under your feet,
/is chatfirst opens the Select an Island menu with "You have multiple islands. Please select one.". Pick the island and the command continues. - The toggle belongs to you, not to one island. If you stay in island chat and walk onto another of your islands, your next message goes to that island.
Island chat and global chat#
- While island chat is on, your normal messages are private to the island. Nobody else sees them.
- You still receive global chat from other players while island chat is on. The toggle only changes where your own messages go.
- Switch back with
/is chatagain, or with/chator/globalchat. - If you can no longer use island chat, your next message is not sent. This happens when you no longer belong to an island, or when the owner raises the Chat permission above your role. You are moved back to global chat with "You are now talking in global chat.". Send the message again and it goes to global chat.
Messages you may see#
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "Now talking in the island chat." | Island chat is on |
| "No longer talking in the island chat." | Island chat is off and you are back in global chat |
| "Switched to island chat." | You used /chat island |
| "You cannot enter island chat." | You used /chat island without belonging to an island |
| "You are now talking in global chat." | Island chat ended for you because you can no longer use it |
| "You don't have permission to do that!" | Your island role is below the minimum for the Chat permission |
| "You have multiple islands. Please select one." | The island picker is opening |
Tips#
- Write
/is tcfor a short form. It does the same as/is chat. - If your messages stop reaching a teammate, check their role with
/is list. A member below the minimum role for Chat will not see them. - Island chat is for your team. Use global chat, see Chat, to talk to everyone.
