Island Recruitment

How to find an island team in the Find an Island browser, how to apply, and how Co-Owners and Officers list, run and review recruitment, with every limit and cooldown and the public website directory.

Island Recruitment is the Skyblock system for finding an island team and for filling a team. An island publishes a recruitment listing with a headline and a description. Other players browse the listings in the Find an Island menu, apply, and join once an officer accepts them, or at once if the island accepts members instantly. The same listings appear on the Netherite website, which is read only.

Overview#

  • Players who want a team use /is find and the Find an Island browser.
  • Island officers use /is recruit to publish and manage the listing and /is applications to review applicants.
  • Every applicant can check their own applications with /is myapplications.
  • Joining through recruitment uses one of your joined island slots (the islands you belong to but do not own). With the default limits you can join 3 islands, see island limits.
  • Accepted applicants join with the Default role. Roles and permissions are described in Island Permissions.
  • Recruitment is separate from invites. An invite comes from a member and needs no listing, see Island Members and Roles.

Commands#

All commands open a menu. The aliases are listed in the table.

CommandAliasesWhoOpens
/is find/is browse, /is recruitmentEveryoneFind an Island, the directory of recruiting islands
/is recruitIsland membersIsland Recruitment, the listing manager of your island
/is applicationsReviewers of the islandApplications, the queue of players who applied to your island
/is myapplications/is myappsEveryoneMy Applications, the applications you sent

/is recruit and /is applications act on one island. If you are standing in one of your islands, that island is used. If you belong to exactly one island, that one is used. Otherwise the Select an Island menu asks which island you mean, see The Island Menu.

Other ways in:

  • Your Skyblock Islands (the menu behind /island) has a Find an Island button that opens the directory, even when you have no free member slot.
  • The Recruitment button of the island menu opens the listing manager. It only works for members who hold the permission to manage the listing or the permission to review applications. By default that is Co-Owner and above for managing the listing and Officer and above for reviewing applications.

Finding an island#

The Find an Island menu#

/is find opens a five-row menu titled Find an Island. The middle three rows hold the islands, seven per row, so 21 per page. The bottom row has the previous and next page arrows and three buttons.

  • If no island is listed for the current filter, the menu does not open. You get "No islands are recruiting right now. Check back soon." instead.
  • The menu loads at most 45 islands each time it opens. That is three pages. Changing the sort or the filter reloads the list and starts again at page one.
  • Only listings whose status is Recruiting are shown. Paused and closed listings are hidden.

What an island entry shows

LineMeaning
Gold titleThe island's name
White lineThe listing headline
OwnerThe island owner
MembersCurrent members, owner included, and the island's member limit, for example 3/7
Online nowHow many of those members are online
Value this weekThe value the island gained this week, see Island Level and Value

Sort orders#

Each click on the sort button moves to the next order. The order repeats after the last one.

OrderName on the buttonHow islands are ranked
1RecommendedIslands with a free slot first, then islands with more members online, then islands that gained value this week, then the most recently bumped
2Recently activeMost members online first, then the most recently bumped
3NewestThe most recently created listing first
4Island valueHighest all-time value first. The all-time value is the Total value line of the details screen
5Most spaceMost free member slots first

The browser ranks from the 200 most recently bumped open listings, so a very old listing can be missing from every view until it is bumped.

Island Details#

Clicking an island opens the Island Details menu. It shows the island's head with:

  • the island name and headline
  • the description, or "No description provided."
  • the owner, members, members online and value this week, as in the list
  • Total value, the island's all-time value

The button under the head depends on the island:

ButtonWhen it showsWhat a click does
Apply to join (Book and Quill)The island needs an application and has a free slotAsks for an application message, then sends the application
Join instantly (Lime Dye)The island accepts members instantly and has a free slotOpens the Join this island? confirmation
Island is full (Barrier)The island has no free slotAnswers "That island is full."

The Back arrow returns to the directory.

Applying#

By application#

  1. Click Apply to join. The menu closes and a text prompt titled Your application asks "Tell them why you want to join, or 'cancel'."
  2. Type your message and confirm it. Cancelling the prompt sends nothing and returns you to the menu.
  3. You see "Your application to <island> has been sent."

The application is now Waiting for review. It stays open for 7 days. Every member who may review applications is notified. The island's reviewers decide, see Reviewing applications.

The message can be up to 512 characters. Extra spaces are collapsed. The characters <, >, &, §, \ and the backtick are never allowed, and text that the island-name word filter blocks is refused with "That message is not allowed."

Instant join#

An island in Instant join mode lets in anyone who passes the checks, with no review.

  1. Click Join instantly. The Join this island? menu opens.
  2. Click Join <island> to join, or Cancel to go back. The green button warns "This uses your island member slot." and "Leaving and joining again has a cooldown."
  3. You see "You have joined <island>."

No message is asked for in this mode, and no reviewer is notified. Instant join is still an application internally, so every rule below applies in the same way.

What stops an application#

MessageReason
"This island is not accepting members right now."The listing is paused or closed, or recruitment is off
"You are already a member of that island."You belong to it already
"You already have an application waiting on that island."One pending application per island
"That island is full."The island has no free member slot
"You have no free slot to join another island."You already belong to as many islands as you may join
"You already have 3 applications waiting. Withdraw one first."You have 3 pending applications. Withdraw one in My Applications
"You are banned from that island."The island banned you
"You do not meet this island's requirements."You have an active punishment, see below
"You can apply to this island again in <time>."The 3-day reapply wait, see below
"That message is not allowed."The application message is too long, has blocked characters or a blocked word
"Your profile could not be loaded. Try again shortly."A temporary error. Try again
  • Requirements. Every listing requires that the applicant has no active punishment. There is no menu to change this. If the check cannot be completed, the application is refused as well.
  • Reapply wait. After an island declines your application, or after you withdraw it, you must wait 3 days before applying to that same island again. Other islands are not affected.

My Applications#

/is myapplications (or the My Applications button of the browser) opens a three-row menu titled My Applications. It lists up to your 45 newest applications, seven per row, newest first. It is the place to look when you were offline for a decision.

EntryShowsClick
Book and Quill Yellow island name"Waiting for review", members of the island, when it was sent, when it expiresWithdraws the application at once, with no confirmation. You see "Your application has been withdrawn."
Lime Dye Green island name"Accepted" and the decision timeNothing
Gray Dye Grey island nameThe final status of a closed application (declined, withdrawn, expired or cancelled) and "Reason:" with the decline reason or "None given"Nothing

A withdrawn application starts the 3-day reapply wait for that island.

When applications end by themselves#

  • Expiry. A pending application that nobody decided is closed after 7 days. The check runs every 15 minutes.
  • Accepted elsewhere. When one of your applications is accepted, or you join by instant join, all your other pending applications are cancelled.
  • Paused listing. When an island pauses its listing, all its pending applications are cancelled.
  • Disbanded island. When an island is disbanded, its listing is removed and its pending applications are cancelled, see Deleting and Resetting an Island.

Each cancellation and expiry sends you a notification, see Notifications.

Recruiting for your island#

Open the manager with /is recruit or the Recruitment button of the island menu. It is a three-row menu titled Island Recruitment. Changing the listing needs the permission to manage the listing, which is Co-Owner and above by default. The owner can change that in the permissions menu. The menu itself opens for any member who runs the command, but every change is refused with "You do not have permission to manage this island's listing."

Creating the listing#

An island has no listing until its headline is set.

  1. Open the manager. The status button reads Not recruiting with "Set a headline to start recruiting."
  2. Click Headline. The menu hides and a prompt titled Listing headline asks "Type a short headline for your island, or 'cancel'."
  3. Type the headline. "Your recruitment listing has been saved." appears. A new listing opens straight away and is in Application join mode.

The Description button needs an existing listing. Without one it answers "This island has no recruitment listing." The status button gives the same answer until a headline exists.

Text rules#

FieldRule
Headline8 to 64 characters after extra spaces are collapsed. Error: "That headline is not allowed. Use 8-64 plain characters."
DescriptionUp to 512 characters. Optional. Error: "That description is not allowed."
Decline reasonUp to 256 characters, see below

The characters <, >, &, §, \ and the backtick are refused in all of them, and so are words blocked by the island-name filter. Plain letters, numbers and punctuation are fine.

Status, pausing and expiry#

StatusMeaning
RecruitingThe listing is in the directory and accepts applications
PausedThe listing is hidden and refuses applications. Pausing also cancels every pending application
Not recruiting (closed)The listing is hidden. This happens by itself when an open listing goes 14 days without a bump
  • The status button toggles Recruiting and Paused. Messages: "Your island is now listed in the recruitment directory." and "Your recruitment listing is paused."
  • Editing the headline, the description or the join mode keeps the current status and does not count as a bump.
  • Open listings that were last bumped more than 14 days ago are closed by a check that runs every 15 minutes.
  • A closed listing keeps its headline and description. Because the 14 days run from the last bump, bump a closed listing first and then reopen it. Reopening without a bump can see it closed again at the next check.

Bumping#

Bump listing resets the listing's freshness date to now. It feeds the Recommended and Recently active sort orders, restarts the 14-day expiry and shows "Your recruitment listing has been bumped."

  • A listing can be bumped once per 6 hours. Before that the answer is "You can bump this listing again in <time>."
  • Bumping is the only way to keep a listing from closing. The button needs the same permission as the other manager buttons.

Tags and region#

A listing can carry up to 3 tags (Casual, Competitive, Beginner friendly, Active daily, Builders, Grinders, Farmers, Redstone, Social) and a region (North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, or any). The website shows them on cards. The in-game menus have no button to set or show them.

Reviewing applications#

Open the queue with /is applications or the Applications button of the manager. Reviewing needs the permission to review applications, which is Officer and above by default.

The Applications menu#

A three-row menu titled Applications. It lists up to the 45 newest applications of the island, newest first, with previous and next arrows and a Back arrow.

EntryShowsClick
Yellow name with the applicant's headThe applicant's message ("No message provided." if empty), when it was sent and when it expiresOpens Review Application
Grey name"Status:" and "Decided:"Nothing. Only pending applications can be opened

Review Application#

The menu shows the applicant's head, message and dates. Three buttons:

ButtonWhat it does
Accept (Lime Concrete)"Add this player to your island." The applicant joins as a Default member. You see "<player> has joined your island." and return to the queue
Decline (Red Concrete)Prompts for a reason, then declines. You see "You declined <player>'s application." and return to the queue
Back (Arrow)Returns to the queue
  • Declining needs a reason. When the Decline reason prompt opens, type a short plain reason of up to 256 characters. A decline without a reason is refused ("That reason is not allowed."). The applicant sees the reason.
  • Accepting rechecks everything. Acceptance is refused when the island is full ("Your island is full."), the applicant already joined ("That player is already a member."), is banned from the island ("That player is banned from your island.") or has no free joined island slot any more ("That player no longer has a free island slot.").
  • One decision only. If another reviewer decided first, you see "That application has already been decided."
  • Accepting cancels the rest. When an applicant is accepted, their other pending applications on other islands are cancelled.

Notifications#

Recruitment sends network notifications. In game, an online player sees them in chat as Title: message. They are a convenience: My Applications and the Applications queue always show the current state.

EventWho is notifiedTitle and text
New application (application mode)Every member who may review applicationsNew island application: "<player> applied to join <island>."

DeclinedThe applicantApplication declined: "Your application to <island> was declined: <reason>"

An instant join notifies no reviewer.

On the website#

The Netherite website shows the same listings to anyone, without a login. It is read only: you cannot apply, list or review there. You always apply in game. See The Netherite Website for the rest of the site.

Islands Recruiting#

The Islands Recruiting page is the public directory. Its introduction says that you can join one island besides your own and that the numbers update live.

DescriptionThe first three lines of the description
BadgesInstant join for instant islands, the region unless it is any, and every tag
NumbersMembers (x/y), Online and This week, the value gained this week

Clicking a card opens that island's profile page.

The island profile page#

Each island has a profile page on the website. It shows:

  • the title "<owner>'s Island" with a Public or Private badge and the member count
  • the recruitment card, when the island has a listing. It reads Recruiting new members with the headline, description, region and tags. It adds Instant join for instant islands and Full when no slot is free, the member count, members online and value this week, and the line "Join Skyblock and run /is find in game to apply."
  • four value cards: All-Time Value, Monthly Value, Weekly Value and Members
  • a Members list with every member's head, a link to their player page and a role badge (Owner, Co-Owner, Officer, Trusted, Co-op, Guest or Member)
  • a link back to the leaderboards, see Website Leaderboards and Island Top

The page says "Island Not Found" for an island that does not exist or was disbanded. The recruitment card follows the listing, not its status, so a paused or closed listing can still appear on the profile of its island, while the directory hides it.

Tips#

  • Pick an island that is online while you are. The Online now number and the Recently active order show that at a glance.
  • Write a message that says when you play and what you build. A decline needs a reason, but a message that tells the reviewers why you fit is the fastest way to be accepted.
  • Keep a free joined island slot before you apply. You can send up to 3 applications, but a slot is used by the first one that is accepted.
  • For island officers: bump the listing at least every 14 days, and clear the queue. Applications that are not decided are closed after 7 days.
  • Raise the island's member limit with Max Members when the island is full, otherwise the directory shows it as full and nobody can apply.
  • Selling an entire island is a different system, see Island Marketplace.
