Island Generators are the main source of stone and ore on a Skyblock island. When a cobblestone generator forms in the Overworld, or a basalt generator forms in the Nether, the block that appears is chosen from a weighted pool instead of always being cobblestone or basalt. Each island has a separate generator per dimension, and each generator improves through tiers that cost money and need a minimum Ore Mastery level.
How generation works#
- Overworld. A cobblestone generator (flowing lava meeting water) produces a block from your current tier's pool. Tier 1 gives cobblestone and coal ore; tier 9 adds diamond and emerald ore.
- Nether. A basalt generator (lava flowing onto soul soil beside blue ice) produces from the Nether pool: basalt, netherrack, blackstone and, with tiers, quartz, nether gold, magma, glowstone, gilded blackstone and ancient debris. The Nether generator exists only once the island has unlocked the Nether (Island Dimensions (Nether and End)).
- The End has no generator.
- The tier and filter are stored per dimension, so upgrading the Overworld generator does not change the Nether one.
- The block that forms is picked by weight: a resource with weight 20 in a pool whose weights add up to 100 appears 20% of the time. The tier tables list every weight.
Upgrading your generator#
Stand on your island (in the Overworld or Nether) and run /island generator. The Island Generator menu shows:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Generator Tier (furnace) | Your current tier and the exact outputs with their weights. |
| Upgrade Generator (anvil) | The next tier, its cost and requirements. Click to buy. Shows Max tier reached! at the top tier. |
| Filter button | Opens the generator filter (Generator Filter). |
| Tier list | Every tier of that dimension: unlocked, current and future tiers with their pools and requirements. |
The command targets the dimension you are standing in on your own island; anywhere else it opens the Overworld generator. Paying for a tier needs the money and the Ore Mastery level shown on the upgrade button. If you do not have enough you see "You need $X to upgrade your island generator!", and if the mastery level is too low "You need Iron Ore mastery level 8 to upgrade your island generator!"
If the island changes while you pay, the payment is refunded: "Your island generator changed while upgrading. Your payment was refunded - try again." Your island world must be loaded to manage the generator.
Generator boost#
The Island Booster Beacon multiplies the weight of every output except the base block (cobblestone, or basalt in the Nether) for generators inside its radius: x1.1 at beacon level 0, x1.2 at level 1 and x1.35 at level 2 (Island Booster Beacon). Rarer outputs therefore appear more often while the base block share shrinks.
