Island Block Limits cap how many of certain blocks an island may have placed at the same time. On Skyblock the only limited block is the Hopper. Every island starts with room for 500 hoppers, and the Hopper Limit island upgrade raises that cap in steps up to 120,000.
Overview#
- The limit is per island. All members share one counter, so a hopper placed by any member counts for everyone.
- Only the Hopper block is limited. Hopper minecarts, pistons, dispensers, droppers and every other block can be placed without a block limit.
- The limit is on placed hopper blocks, not on the items a hopper moves.
- Placing a hopper adds one to the count, and breaking one takes one away.
- When the count is at the limit, the next hopper cannot be placed and nothing is lost: the item stays in your hand.
- The limit only applies on island worlds. It does not apply at spawn or in other game areas.
The hopper limit#
The limit is set by the island's Hopper Limit upgrade. Every island starts at level 1.
| Level | Hoppers allowed | Cost to reach |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 500 | Free (starting level) |
| 2 | 1,000 | $500,000 |
| 3 | 2,000 | $2M |
| 4 | 4,000 | $8M |
| 5 | 8,000 | $30M |
| 6 | 15,000 | $100M |
| 7 | 30,000 | $300M |
| 8 | 60,000 | $800M |
| 9 | 120,000 | $2B |
Each purchase moves the island up one level, and the cost is paid by the player who clicks. Buy it in /is upgrades on the Hopper Limit item, see Island Upgrades. The item shows your current limit, the next limit and the cost. A new limit applies to new placements as soon as the purchase completes. At level 9 there is nothing further to buy.
No other island upgrade changes a block limit. Island size, members, crop growth, sell boost, warps and robots each have their own separate ladders.
How placements are counted#
- Every successful placement of a limited block by a player adds one to the island's count.
- A placement is allowed while the new total stays at or below the limit. At a limit of 500 you can place your 500th hopper, and the 501st is refused.
- The count falls when a counted block is broken by a player or destroyed by the game's own block physics.
- Each of an island's worlds keeps its own count: the Overworld, the Nether and the End are counted separately.
- Counts are kept with the island world, so they survive restarts and the island unloading.
- Other ways a hopper can disappear, such as an explosion or a piston pushing it, are not tracked by the counter.
What you see#
| Situation | Message |
|---|---|
| You are at the limit | "You can't place any more of this block! (<current>/<limit>)", for example "(500/500)" |
| The island's counts are not ready yet, for example right after the island loads | "Block limits are loading. Please try again shortly." The placement is cancelled. |
The first number is how many hoppers the island has, and the second is its limit. This is the only place the current count is shown, because there is no command or menu that lists block usage. The limit itself appears on the Hopper Limit item in /is upgrades.
Hitting the limit#
- Break hoppers you no longer need. Each one you break frees a slot at once.
- Or buy the next Hopper Limit level in
/is upgrades.
Placements by someone who may not build on the island, for example a visitor, are refused by the island's normal permissions first and do not count.
Other island limits#
Block limits are separate from the other caps on an island:
| Cap | Where it is explained |
|---|---|
| Warps per island (3 to 15) | Island Warps and Visiting |
| Members per island | Island Members and Roles and Island Upgrades |
| Robots placed at once (4 to 8 with the Robot Placement Limit upgrade) | Automation |
| Spawners | Managed Spawners |
Tips#
- Plan hopper chains and sorters before you place them. At the starting limit of 500 hoppers a large automated farm can use the whole budget.
- If a placement is refused unexpectedly, check the number in the message first. It tells you exactly how many hoppers the island has.
- Remember that all members share the count, so agree with your team who builds hopper lines.
