The Island Booster Beacon is a placeable block that boosts the machines around it. Place it on your island and every supported machine inside its radius works faster or pays more. A beacon starts at level 0 and can be upgraded twice, which widens its radius and strengthens every effect.
Overview#
- The beacon only works on an island. Placing it anywhere else is refused with "Booster beacons can only be placed on an island!".
- It boosts machines near it, not players. See the tables below for what each machine type gets.
- Right-clicking the placed beacon opens the Island Booster Beacon menu.
- Several beacons can overlap, but the extra ones count for less, see stacking.
The beacon menu#
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Status (Beacon) | "Booster Beacon Level N" with the radius and each effect's multiplier |
| Preview Range (Ender Eye) | Left-click to draw the beacon radius and highlight the machines it affected during the last 30 seconds |
| Upgrade to Level N (Experience Bottle) | Shows the new radius and the cost, and upgrades the beacon on a left-click |
| Maximum Level (green glass pane) | Replaces the upgrade button at the top level: "This beacon is fully upgraded." |
The upgrade cost is taken from the player who clicks. If the beacon changes while an upgrade is in progress, the payment is refunded automatically.
Levels and effects#
Each level has a radius in blocks. Every effect is a multiplier on the listed machines inside that radius.
| Level | Cost to reach | Radius | Void chests (sell) | Crops (growth) | Generators | Collectors | Robots | Spawners |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Free (starting level) | 12 blocks | x1.10 | x1.15 | x1.10 | x1.10 | x1.05 | x1.10 |
| 1 | $1,000,000 | 20 blocks | x1.20 | x1.30 | x1.20 | x1.20 | x1.10 | x1.20 |
| 2 | $5,000,000 | 32 blocks | x1.35 | x1.50 | x1.35 | x1.35 | x1.20 | x1.35 |
| Effect | Machines it affects |
|---|---|
| Sell boost | Void chests |
| Growth boost | Wheat, carrots, potatoes and beetroots |
| Generator boost | Island generators: raises the weight of every output except the base block (cobblestone, or basalt in the Nether), so rarer ores appear more often |
| Collector boost | Collectors and farming collectors |
| Robot boost | Robots |
| Spawner boost | Spawners and managed spawners |
The levels are numbered from 0 in game: a new beacon is level 0, the first upgrade makes it level 1 and the second level 2. Some guides call these the first to third tier.
Mechanics of these machines are covered in Island Generators, Managed Spawners and Automation.
Stacking#
When two or more beacons cover the same machine:
- At most 3 beacons count for one machine.
- The strongest effect counts in full. Each further beacon adds only half of the previous one's bonus: the second beacon counts at 50%, the third at 25%.
- Beacons beyond the third add nothing.
Example: two level 2 beacons give crops in range of both a growth of 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 x 0.5 = x1.75.
Tips#
- Put the beacon in the middle of your machines so that even the 12-block radius of a new beacon covers them.
- Use the Preview Range button after you place or move machines to check what the beacon reaches.
- The first upgrade (level 1) costs $1,000,000, widens the radius from 12 to 20 blocks and doubles every bonus. It adds more than a second level 0 beacon would.
