Obtaining Spawners

Buy spawners in the shop, place them with the 100-spawner limit in mind, and pick them up with Silk Touch or a Spawner Wrench.

Obtaining a spawner on Lifesteal means buying one with money in the shop, then placing it. You pick spawners back up with a Silk Touch tool or a Spawner Wrench.

Buying spawners#

Open /shop and choose Spawners ("Spawner wrenches and mob spawners"), or run /spawnershop to open the shop menu. The Buy this spawner button in a placed spawner's panel opens the purchase screen for that mob's spawner. Prices are in money. See Shop and Selling.

Spawners are also rare rewards elsewhere:

  • Blaze Spawners can be a rare crate reward.
  • The monthly vote milestones give a Spider Spawner at 70 votes, a Blaze Spawner at 130 and an Iron Golem Spawner at 170. See monthly milestones.
  • Some crates can give three Spawner Wrenches at once.

See Crates and Voting.

Natural spawners found in the world, such as dungeon and fortress spawners, are turned into managed spawners with no owner when their chunk loads. Anyone can manage and pick up an ownerless spawner.

Placing spawners#

Place a spawner item like any block. Its in-game name is <mob> Spawner. A spawner that has been placed and picked up again also shows its stack size, mode, stored items and XP in its lore.

  • You can have at most 100 placed spawners. A stack of up to 64 spawners counts as one placed spawner. If you hit the limit you see "You have reached your spawner limit."
  • Placing a spawner against a face of an existing spawner of the same type adds it to that stack instead of placing a new block. See Stacking Spawners.
  • The player who places a spawner becomes its owner.
  • If another spawner is already registered at that block, or the space was taken before the spawner could be placed, the placement fails and you keep the item.
  • There is no limit per chunk or per world, and the owner does not need to be online for the spawner to work.

Picking up and theft#

To pick up a placed spawner you need one of:

ToolHow it works
A tool with Silk TouchBreak the spawner block. Without Silk Touch you see "You need Silk Touch to pick up a managed spawner."
Spawner WrenchRight-click the spawner. It is a golden hoe with the lore "Right-click a spawner to pick it up".

Breaking a spawner picks up the whole stack as one item, together with its upgrades, stored items and stored XP. You can place it again later, or split it with the panel.

Only the owner can split the stack, switch mode and use /spawner panel, /spawner collect, /spawner sell, /spawner mode <mode>, /spawner pause and /spawner resume. A spawner with no owner can be managed by anyone. Upgrades are not owner-locked: anyone who opens the panel can buy them for the spawner with their own money.

Commands#

Run these while looking at a placed spawner, within 8 blocks.
