Random Teleport sends you to a random safe location. It is the usual way to find a place to build, since you start at spawn and the world is huge.
Commands#
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/rtp | Teleports you to a random spot in the Overworld. |
/rtp nether | Teleports you to a random spot in the Nether. |
/rtp end | Teleports you to a random spot in the End. |
/rtpmenu | Opens a menu with Overworld, Nether and End buttons that run the commands above. |
/wild works the same as /rtp.
The menu texts: Overworld "Teleport randomly into the Overworld. Find a spot to build your base. Make sure to hide your base well!", Nether "DANGER ZONE - High Risk Area", End "EXTREME DANGER - PvP Active".
How it works#
- Run the command. You see "Teleporting to
<world>..." and "Finding a safe location". - Stand still for the 3 second warm-up. If you move or take damage it is cancelled.
- The server picks random coordinates in the allowed area and checks that the spot is safe, trying again if it is not.
- You arrive with "Teleported to
<x>, <y>, <z>" and an "Arrived!" title.
If no safe spot is found you see "We couldn't find a safe position in a reasonable amount of time. Please try again in a few seconds." or "Can't find a safe position! Please try again in a few seconds."
Limits#
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Cooldown | 10 seconds after a successful teleport: "You must wait <time> before using /rtp again!" |
| Time to find a spot | 10 seconds |
| Only one at a time | "Another RTP is already in progress, please wait!" |
| Combat | Teleport commands are blocked while combat-tagged. See Combat Tag. |
Where you can land#
| World | Area | Height | Away from section edges | Away from other players |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Overworld | X and Z from -25,000 to 25,000, excluding the central 11,000 x 11,000 square | Surface, above 20% of the world height | 32 blocks | 2 blocks |
| Nether | X and Z from 0 to 25,000 | Lower 80% of the height, never the roof | 16 blocks | none |
| End | X and Z from 0 to 25,000 | Highest block | 16 blocks | none |
- The excluded Overworld square covers from -5,500 to 5,500 on both axes, which is the spawn and the area around it. You never land closer than 5,500 blocks to the centre.
- Other players' bases are not protected: you can land next to a base. There are no claims on Lifesteal.
- Chunks are loaded and generated for you if nobody has been there yet.
Tips#
- Use
/sethomeafter you find a spot so you can return. See Teleporting. - The Nether and End are high risk. See Nether and End.
