A safe zone is an area of the map where PvP is switched off. The messages "You have entered the safe zone." and "You have left the safe zone." tell you when you cross the edge.
What a safe zone does#
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Damage | Players inside take no damage from any source. |
| Attacking | Players inside cannot hurt anyone, even outside the zone. |
| Explosions | Explosions inside a safe zone are cancelled. |
| Knockback | Knockback is cancelled for entities inside. |
| Ender pearls and chorus | They cannot carry you into a safe zone from outside it. |
| Combat tag | A combat-tagged player cannot walk or teleport into a safe zone. See Combat Tag. |
Safe zones do not stop you being killed the moment you step out, so a fight can continue at the edge once your tag runs out.
The red glass border#
While you are combat-tagged, the edges of nearby safe zones are drawn as red stained glass that only you can see. It shows within 16 blocks of you and marks the wall you cannot cross until your tag ends. The glass is not real: you cannot break it, and it disappears when the tag ends.
The edges of the world#
PvP is also off outside the world border. Players beyond it cannot hurt or be hurt, and pearls cannot land you there. The edge of each grid section counts as a safe zone too, so a combat-tagged player cannot cross from one section to the next. You also cannot build within 32 blocks of a seam. See The Grid.
Events and protected worlds#
Special event areas such as the Outpost, Citadel and Siege worlds do not allow building. See Outposts and KOTH.
Warzone#
A warzone is the open battlefield area where fighting is expected. The one rule that sets warzones apart is that a combat-tagged player cannot ender pearl or chorus out of one. The Warps menu lists PVP and WARZONE warps.
Tips#
- Check your hearts before you leave a safe zone. See Hearts.
- A safe zone is the quickest way to lose a chaser, but you cannot enter one while you are tagged. Fight away from the edge if you rely on it.
- Players have a loot lock on kills: dropped items are reserved for the killer for 15 seconds. See loot after a kill.
