The hub is the first world every player lands in when they connect to Netherite. It is a safe spawn area: nothing can hurt you, nothing can be built, and everything you need to reach a gamemode is in your hotbar. This guide walks through your first minute and explains how to return later.
What happens when you join#
- You connect with the normal network address (see Connecting to Netherite) and the network sends you to one of the hub servers.
- About one second after you arrive you get a welcome message in chat and a Welcome! title that points you to the Netherite Discord.
- Your hotbar holds two items: the Server Selector (a nether star, first slot, already selected) and the Hub Selector (a clock, last slot). The selector does not open by itself, so right-click the nether star to start.
Pick a gamemode#
- Hold the Server Selector and right-click, or type
/selector. You can also skip the menu and type/skyblock,/prison,/lifestealor/survival. - Click the mode you want. The menu shows the current player count and how long the mode's current season has been running. See Server Selector for every button.
- A "Teleporting..." message appears and you are moved. The first time you enter a mode you arrive at its spawn. On later visits you return to where you last left that mode.
The four modes are Skyblock, Prison, Lifesteal and Survival. Each has its own getting-started guide:
| Mode | Guide |
|---|---|
| Skyblock | Getting Started on Skyblock |
| Prison | Getting Started with Prison |
| Lifesteal | Getting Started on Lifesteal |
| Survival | Getting Started on Survival |
Moving around the hub#
- Double jump: press jump twice in the air to be flung in the direction you are looking. See Hub Movement.
- Launch pad: step on the lime-marked pad to be launched forward.
- Portal: walking into the hub's portal pushes you back and opens the Server Selector.
What you cannot do#
The hub is a protected area. You take no damage, you do not get hungry, you cannot place or break blocks, you cannot drop items, no mobs spawn, and you cannot rearrange your inventory. The two selector items cannot be dropped or moved.
Coming back to the hub#
Type /hub (alias /lobby) in any mode to return to a hub server. The command also works from the mode lobbies. If you are already in the hub, you are told so. If no hub can be picked the normal way, the network tries a fallback hub server, and if none is available you see "Could not connect to the hub!".
If you want fewer players around you or want a different hub instance, use the clock item. See Hub Selector.
Where to go next#
- Browse every hub item and what it does in Hub Items.
- Set up your account on the website: Your Netherite Account.
- Read Getting Started on Netherite for the network-wide overview.
- Questions about the hub itself are answered in Hub FAQ.
